ROHS
Detection of harmful substances in electronic and electrical products (ROHS certification)--- ETL certification body

The introduction of ROHS certification directive:
WEEE:Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (Directive 2002/96/EC)
This directive is order to reduce the amount of waste electrical appliances, and increase the reuse, recycling, and recycling rate of waste electrical appliances.

RoHS:Restriction of the use of Certain Hazardous Substances in Electrical and Electronic
Equipment (Directive 2002/95/EC)
This directive is formulated to limit the use of hazardous substances or to limit the amount of harmful substances in the equipment.

That two directives are requires manufacturers to assume responsibility for the problem of electronic pollution, and stipulate the products must meet the requirements of the RoHS directive when they enter the EU market, the enterprises which has entered the EU market need to fulfill the responsibility of WEEE recycling directive.

According the area of the product, electrical and electronic products under RoHS instruction mainly covers 8 categories of 123 kinds of consumption and industrial electrical and electronic equipment, Since July 1, 2006, when the electronic and electrical products of the RoHS directive to enter the EU market, can not contain the lead, cadmium, mercury, six chromium, Polybrominated biphenyl, and PBDEs.

Key points of RoHS directive:
Since July 1, 2006, RoHS directive requirements that the Lead, cadmium, mercury, six chromium, and more than bromine, which are prohibited in electronic and electric equipment. And the 6 kinds of harmful substances shall not exceed the requirements of the index. in electrical and electronic products there are 6 kinds of harmful substances will not exceed requirements to entering the EU market, in the homogeneous materials, the weight percentage of cadmium should not exceed 0.01% also the weight percentage of lead, mercury, six valence chromium, poly bromide and poly-brominates biphenyl ethers were not more than 0.1% too. Products required to demonstrating the appropriate documentation or compliance statement, if the products doesn’t meet the requirements, it cannot enter the EU market. Relative to directive WEEE, ROSH influence more direct and fast for the enterprises to export to the EU. So the enterprises which export to the EU should action as early as possible, screening of raw materials and products that meet the requirements of RoHS, and select suppliers to meet the requirements.
