The Brazilian National Agency for Metrology, Standardization and Industrial Quality (INMETRO) issued Order No. 371 on December 29, 2009, which adopted the mandatory technical certification standards for 87 categories of household appliances (including industrial use).
As of July 1, 2011, all household appliances manufactured and imported in Brazil must comply with the above technical standards.
As of July 1, 2012, all domestic appliances sold by producers and importers in Brazil must comply with the above technical standards.
As of January 1, 2013, all household appliances sold in Brazil must meet these technical standards.
To obtain a quality label, manufacturers must pass laboratory tests and undergo regular production line inspections.
